A light hearted way to remember loved ones passed
Welcome back to the blog, today I’ll be exploring some of the more light hearted ways that we can remember loved ones.
So if you’d like to know more, then please keep reading.
I’ve taken inspiration for today’s Blog from leading contemporary Historian, Educationalist and Political Author; Sir Anthony Seldon.
I was recently made aware of Sir Anthony’s interview with BBC Radio Four where he made his case to create an annual Memorial Day in memory of deceased loved ones.
There is so much pressure on all of us to ‘move on’ after the loss of a loved one. But as Sir Anthony touched upon, why would we not want to purposely reflect on those who have hugely influenced our lives for the better?
If Heaven had a Postcode - The Brand
For those of you who already know my story, then you’ll be familiar with my flagship book ‘If Heaven had a Postcode’
Created for the sole purpose of keeping precious memories alive year after year, it’s no surprise that I am completely on board with Sir Anthony’s case and I think an annual Memorial Day is a fantastic idea.
I have many ideas for the future of ‘If Heaven had a Postcode’ and I hope that my vision and the memorial book itself, will grow into treasured memories for anyone suffering with bereavement.
‘Your’ Day
Within If Heaven had a Postcode, the final poem in the book, which encourages Remembrance and reflection is ‘Your’ day.
This is a light hearted poem with an underlying suggestion to choose a day of the week to remember your loved one.
As Sir Anthony describes in his interview with Radio 4, we get so ‘caught up with the here and now’ that the important things often get forgotten.
With guilt being such a hugely familiar feeling for many of us processing loss, having a moment reserved one day each week to share a memory of a loved one is a beautifully light hearted and lovely way to keep speaking about them.
I’ll leave the poem below for anyone who would like a read, but remember ‘If Heaven had a Postcode’ is available to purchase via the website and also through Waterstones.
‘Your’ Day
‘Your day will be a ‘Sun’day because Monday sets the tone,
Long week of work ahead and it usually begins with a moan!
Tuesday never ending, and still 5 to go,
A ladder of days still left to climb and a complexion lacking glow.
Wednesday nothing special, though nearly half way there, another day of daily tasks, then home to wash my hair.
Thursday still not right for you,
It lacks a special charm,
A bit of housework here and there and a run down to the farm.
Friday feelings don’t last long,
A headache in the morn, why did I drink so much last night, I tell myself at dawn.
School out on Saturday, means no work and all play, little people spread their joy and while away the day.
Sunday brings a brightness,
A calm and effortless beauty,
Better still, time to reflect, because we’re not on duty.
Sunday is a day of calm, a day for us to mend, and spend time with the ones we love and those we can depend.
So your day will be a Sunday, - the best day of the week, The day that I’ll remember you and make it quite unique.
I hope this blog has given you an idea of a lighthearted way to remember loved ones passed,
Thank you again for reading,
I’ll be back again soon
