Winter is blue without you….

The winter season can be very unforgiving when dealing with the loss of a loved one.

I lost my mum on Boxing Day and so Christmas itself can be particularly challenging.

I myself am very fortunate to have a young son and the distraction of an excited child brings me comfort and hope.

For others, friends and other family members often create a positive distraction along with the general hustle and bustle of the festive season.

But once January comes knocking, it can bring a very stark reminder of the loss we feel.

But how do we survive the highs and lows of winter without that special someone?

In my first book; ‘If Heaven had a Postcode’ I use proven techniques and suggestions that will hold your hand through the harsh winter months. Clever prompts are added to give you back some control of your life moving forward and the promise of a New Year can actually bring new hope to those alone.

Often making very small changes to your daily routine can lead to big changes moving forward.

I recommend getting out in the fresh air as much as you can. Even on a rainy day, the chilly breeze can help blow away feelings of sadness and negativity. Going for a nice walk through the countryside or along the coast is also a great place to have a good cry and allow yourself to process that emotion. Plus the thought of heading back home afterwards for hot chocolate in the warm always helps!

Keep in touch with friends, even by text, reach out to those who uplift you and let go of what no longer serves you. For those really struggling, you’ll find a list of support services detailed in the back of 'If Heaven had a postcode'.

Whatever you choose to do to get you through the harsh winter months, please know you’re not alone.

I’ll be touching more on the above points in my next blog.

Thank you for reading,
