January Bucket List

So to conclude my January survival tips, here are a few suggestions of what you could add to your own bucket list.

Having a goal or something to achieve can really help keep us focused on moving forward and can also help us to pick up regular healthy habits.

If you’re struggling, why not add some of the following to your own bucket list and make a start today? You could even make it a Winter bucket list and aim to tick off just a few things each month when your time and mood allow…

  1. Source seasonable vegetables and make a winter soup – I would suggest making this in a slow cooker meaning you could batch cook it and freeze several portions to defrost for a quick, healthy and hearty meal on days you need a cosy welcome in from the cold.

  2. Bake a winter crumble Now with all that new walking, fresh air and healthy soup, we could all do with a bit of sustenance. Bake a hearty crumble with whatever seasonal fruit you can get your hands on, again you can always portion some up and freeze it if you don’t want to risk over indulging.

  3. Declutter – You could aim to clear one cupboard or one room this month. You could perhaps even make a start on the whole house and celebrate feeling cleansed with a nice bowl of your homemade winter crumble. Decluttering is a proven super mood booster, it can help keep us grounded and help prevent us from becoming overwhelmed and burdened by belongings we simply no longer need. If the idea of this just seems too much, start by filling a bin bag with things that no longer bring you joy, I promise once you start you’ll feel so much better.

  4. Take a walk along the coast  Write your winter wishlist for the next year to come. You can find this in your copy of If Heaven had a postcode. Pop it in the envelope and reflect on this next year when you refill your postcards and see how far you’ve come.

  5. Take up a new hobby – Having a hobby can really help to improve our confidence and self-esteem. It’s also a really lovely way to meet new friends and form new relationships. If the thought of this fills you with dread, why not just start by walking with a friend or even swimming once a week?

  6. Build a self-help list The new year has never been a better time for you to start taking care of yourself. With mental health conditions on the rise, it’s important that we reflect on the things that impact on our mood and things we can put in place to help. Why not make a list of all the things that bring you comfort? You could make notes on your phone or in a diary, but having something to refer to when we are struggling can really help. You might simply add an uplifting playlist, or make a note of some films that help uplift you.

  7. Make a bird house – Having birds in the garden can bring a little lift to a sad day, you could grab a DIY kit off the internet or if that’s too much for you, why not make a bird feeder and hang it to a tree or a fence.

  8. Book something to look forward to – Whether a nice meal out,  a trip with friends or a family holiday, it’s always super important to have something to look forward to.

So there you have it, a list of suggestions to help you build your own Winter bucket list.

I’ll be back later in the week with another blog, but until then, make sure you do something nice for you today.

Thank you for reading,
